Description
This project draws upon the FTZ's relationships with importers to explore bringing in fertilizer from China at a lower cost than what Hawai'i Island farmers currently pay. China is presently the source of much of the fertilizer sold around the world. A potential savings exist for producers, either alone or in groups.
The project is now working with producers and importers to define and quantify requirements.

Challenges this Collaboration seeks to Address
Inadequate Aggregation and Processing Facilities
Hawaiʻi Island lacks sufficient aggregation and processing facilities, making it difficult for small-scale farmers to reach markets efficiently and profitably. This infrastructure gap exacerbates post-harvest loss and limits access to markets.
