Tomatoes

Tomatoes include slicing, cherry, and salad types, often grown in greenhouses or hoop houses to moderate heat and pests. They are widely appreciated by local restaurants and home cooks for their fresh island flavor.

Tomatoes

Tomatoes present a high-value option for growers who can master disease management and pollination under controlled environments. Field-grown tomatoes can face whiteflies, fruit worms, and fungal issues in humid zones, so protective structures remain popular. Successful varieties include heat-tolerant hybrids and heritage types, each serving distinct culinary preferences. Local demand for vine-ripe tomatoes outpaces cheaper imports, leading to stable sales opportunities in direct markets and upscale dining. Although land and infrastructure costs can be high, tomatoes continue to rank among the island’s most profitable specialty vegetables, reflecting a robust local appetite for fresh produce.
