Passionfruit

Passionfruit, known locally as lilikoi, includes both purple and yellow varieties. Vines climb trellises or fences, and the aromatic fruits find use in beverages, desserts, and sauces.

Passionfruit

Lilikoi thrives in mild, tropical conditions, though heavier rains can encourage fungal issues and hamper pollination. Farmers capitalize on strong local enthusiasm for tangy passionfruit juice in cocktails, smoothies, and baked goods. Home gardeners and commercial operations alike produce lilikoi, often turning surplus fruit into jams, syrups, or concentrates for year-round sale. Since transport and storage can be tricky for fresh passionfruit, much of the crop’s value lies in these processed forms. Despite limited orchard size overall, passionfruit remains a beloved staple in local flavor profiles.
