Grapes

Grape vines require careful site selection, typically in drier, higher-elevation areas with lower humidity. A small cluster of vineyards on Hawaiʻi Island targets wine production or table grape sales.

Grapes

Tropical climates pose challenges for traditional Vitis vinifera grapes, which battle fungal diseases. However, certain American or hybrid grapes have shown promise in microclimates with decent airflow and controlled irrigation. Some growers experiment with wine-making or raisin production, though volumes remain modest. Enthusiasm for local wine and agritourism fosters occasional expansions, but grapes still represent a specialized venture. Overall, the high risk of pests and the cost of establishing trellises limit large-scale adoption.
